Family Law Software is a financial analysis tool with a client data entry screen attached. SecureSplit is a workspace where the case lives, and the analysis happens inside it.
That difference shows up in the parts of the job that are not math. Your client has 40 documents to send you. Your paralegal needs the same file you are looking at. A referring CDFA wants to see the settlement scenarios without you exporting a PDF. Family Law Software sends you to Smokeball for document management and gives your team per-license access to their own copies. SecureSplit puts all of it in one place with role-based permissions.
In California, you will still need a certified calculator for the guideline figure. That is true whichever platform you pick, and it is worth being clear about. What changes is everything on either side of that number.
SecureSplit vs. Family Law Software comparison
All 51 U.S. jurisdictions are on the SecureSplit® roadmap. Every state has its own filing rules, calculation formulas, and form templates, so we build them one at a time. Generic court-ready and accepted forms keep the remaining jurisdictions covered until their state-specific exports arrive.
Family Law Software information comes from public sources, including familylawsoftware.com, Capterra, and the Judicial Council of California, as of September 2026. Pricing for both products is current as of September 2026 and may change.
Where SecureSplit fits for California practitioners
Attorneys
Keep the financial side of every case in one place, and hand clients a report they can follow.

CDFAs
Model settlement options before mediation or negotiation, and show clients how each option plays out.
If your practice crosses state lines, SecureSplit has state-specific calculators in 37 states and is usable in all 50. Family Law Software publishes child support calculations for roughly 23.
Frequently asked questions
Is Family Law Software certified in California?+
Yes. Family Law Software is on the California Judicial Council’s list of certified guideline support calculators, recertified through March 31, 2027. Five calculators are currently certified: Cal Support and CalSupport Pro, the California Child Support Guideline Calculator from DCSS, Family Law Software, FamilySoft SupportCalc, and Xspouse. Certification covers the guideline support calculation itself, not a product’s forms, financial analysis, or property division.
How much does Family Law Software cost?+
Family Law Software publishes three cloud tiers: Cloud Basic at $39.95 per month, Cloud Individual at $69.95, and Cloud Firm at $79.95, each with a one-time $99 setup fee. Property division, pension valuation, and budgeting require the Individual tier or higher. SecureSplit bills monthly at $119 for Professional and $299 for Plus, with no setup fee and every financial tool included on both plans. Pricing for both is current as of September 2026.
Does Family Law Software work on a Mac?+
Yes. Family Law Software publishes a native Mac desktop application for macOS 10.13 and later, and its cloud edition runs in Chrome, Brave, Firefox, and Safari. SecureSplit is cloud only and runs in any modern browser on Mac or Windows with nothing to install.
Does SecureSplit calculate taxes?+
No. SecureSplit does not automatically compute state or federal income tax liability. The licensed professional enters verified tax figures from their own source. Family Law Software computes tax automatically for all 50 states and federal, including AMT. See the note at the bottom of this page for what that means under California Rule of Court 5.275.
Can SecureSplit replace Family Law Software?+
For some practices, yes. For others, no. If you rely on automated tax computation, Judicial Council form automation, or a certified California guideline figure produced inside your software, Family Law Software does things SecureSplit does not. If you want a cloud workspace for the whole case, a client document portal, team access with role-based permissions, and calculators across 37 states, SecureSplit covers ground Family Law Software does not. Regarding California Rule of Court 5.275
SecureSplit® does not automatically compute state or federal income tax liability. Tax figures are entered directly by the licensed professional using verified data from their own source. As confirmed in writing by the Judicial Council of California, this means SecureSplit® is not subject to the CPA Statement requirement under Rule 5.275, and certification under that rule is not required.
Your SecureSplit® outputs are court-ready in California. The professional controls every tax input and assumption that goes into the calculation.
